Indian School Darsait organized the 26th Annual Athletic Meet at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, Bowsher, on 3rd November 2018 with great team spirit, camaraderie, zest and zeal. Ms. Fatma Al Nabhani, International Tennis Player, Oman National Team was the Chief Guest and Mr. Musallam Abdullah Al Khadhuri, Professional Swimmer and Coach, Oman National Team was the Guest of Honour. Annanya Jaikish, Head Girl heartily welcomed the honourable Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, dignitaries and parents. The Chief Guest, Ms Fatma Al Nabhani, the Guest of Honour, Mr Musallam Abdullah Al Khaduri, President SMC Mr Jaikish Pavithran, Head Sports Subcommittee, Mr Varghese Tharakan and Director BoD, Mr Sirajudeen Nhelat, were received with Chocolate bouquets by the students of SEN department in the presence of the other esteemed members of the School Management Committee.
Mr C.X Varghese Tharakan, Head Sports Subcommittee, received the Olympic Torch from Jessin Raju, the Participant of CBSE Nationals and the Chief Guest ceremoniously lighted the Olympic Torch. While President SMC, handed over the flag to the Guest of Honour, who flagged off the relay, Abhimanyu Bhatti, Sports Captain received the Olympic Torch from the Chief Guest through the Head Sports Subcommittee and ran the first lap. The Olympic torch changed hands and the athletes continued the surge until Harikeshav Pramodu the School Head Boy, reached it to the Chief Guest who lighted the Cauldron. The Chief Guest also declared the Meet open marking the beginning of the spirited Annual Athletic Meet 2018. In her inspiring address, the Chief Guest recalled the support and encouragement given by her mother, her coach and mentor, in building her career as a sports person. She further urged the students to love sports and dedicate themselves to improve their athletic and sporting skills. A good number of parents and well-wishers of the school were present on the occasion to encourage and motivate their loved ones, with resounding applause.
An impressive March Past and Parade of four different houses—Bapu, C.V Raman, Tagore and Vivekananda and their agility of movement, timing and coordination created a spell binding effect. Thrilling and scintillating Inter-House finals of the track events of senior section and shuttle relay of primary section concluded in nail biting finish. Budding athletes put up a breath-taking show, each one of the event gave the audience moments of great cheer and mirth. A spectacular mass drill that showcased the callisthenic skills by the kids of primary section was definitely a wonderful spectacle to behold, while the synchronized movements of students of Classes VI to VIII, who displayed vibrancy, energy and exuberance, conquered the hearts of many. Selected students of Classes VI to IX demonstrated their acrobatic skill in pyramid formation with utmost balance, timing and precision, making the spectators awe-struck. Winners of the meet were given away medals by the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and other dignitaries. The coveted Championship Trophy was won by C V Raman House while Vivekananda House lifted the Runners up Trophy. C V Raman House was also adjudged the best March- Past Contingent while Tagore House bagged the Runners up Trophy.
Harikeshav Pramodu, Head Boy, thanked the guests, dignitaries and parents profusely for gracing the occasion. The Annual Athletic Meet 2018-19 concluded ceremoniously with Mr.Varghese Tharakan , Head, Sports Subcommittee, SMC declaring the Meet close. The recital of the Vande Matharam marked the culmination of an eventful day.
