The 72nd Independence Day Celebration of India was held at Indian School Darsait on Wednesday, 15 August 2018 with patriotic fervor, gaiety and enthusiasm. Mr. Jaikish Pavithran, President, School Management Committee was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The programme witnessed the presence of esteemed Members of SMC,
Mr. Ajayan Poyyara, Former President, SMC, Principal, staff, students, parents and well-wishers of ISD. Apart from his message, the Chief Guest also read out the excerpts of the message delivered by the Honourable President of India, Sri Ram Nath Kovind on the eve of Independence Day. The President urged the fellow citizens to live up to the principles of freedom struggle of India. “We are at a pivotal moment with the Gram Swaraj Abhiyan for bettering the lives of the deprived”. The forthcoming 150th birth day of Mahatma Gandhi, who is the embodiment of India signals us for empowering the weakest of our society. He further called upon the people to safeguard Indianness through upholding the time-tested principle of ‘Vasudaiva Kudumbakam.’

Mr. Jaikish Pavithran received the salute of honour from the March Past Contingents of the four Houses- Bapu, CV Raman, Tagore and Vivekananda who were judged for their precision, coordination and synchronized movement.
The honourable Chief Guest then launched the YCIS-Young Communitarian of Indian Schools- Club to fulfil ‘Vision 2020’ of the Board of Directors, Indian Schools in Oman which has a three-pronged approach of contributing to the development of Community, preserving the Environment and serving the poor and needy of the Society in order to inculcate and promote the habit of selfless volunteering among the students of Indian Schools.

Dr. Sridevi P.Thashnath, Principal administered the YCIS pledge and exhorted the volunteers to contribute selflessly and to alleviate the sufferings of the needy in the best way possible. Other highlights of the day’s celebrations were ‘Mother India’, a spectacular dance drama on ‘patriotism’, melodious renditions of patriotic songs and the YCIS song ‘Naya Savera Nayi Umang’ written and composed by our music teachers. ‘Know Your India’-Rediscovering India’s contribution to the world, a series to rediscover India’s forgotten glory was also introduced to instill pride in our Indian heritage.
Mr. Ajit Vasudevan, Convener and Head, Academic Subcommittee, SMC announced the winners of the March Past. Tagore House won the first position followed by C V Raman and Vivekananda House.

Mr. Varghese Tharakaran, Head, Sports Subcommittee, SMC inaugurated the Cricket Net Practice Pitch of ISD. The programme concluded with distribution of sweets.
