Indian School Darsait celebrated Gandhi Jayanti to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of the Father of the Nation- Mahatma Gandhi.  Special assemblies were organized to mark the occasion. In the Senior Section the programme began with the prayer song Vaishnav Janatho which was followed by readings from the Holy Quran and the Holy Bible, respectively. There was a speech that highlighted a rich array of thoughts on the life and works of Gandhi in India and his impact on humanity in general. In the primary section the assembly started with a prayer song as students paid floral tribute to Gandhi. The students of Kindergarten presented an impressive skit based on Gandhi’s childhood experiences which reinforced his belief in simple living and high thinking. As kids danced to the song “De de hume aazadi” ……..

Students of Primary Section engaged in various activities like Go Green, Cleanliness, Save Energy, Reduce Plastic, Health and Safety in different classrooms and Gandhi’s favourite song ‘Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram’ was chanted. There were video presentations that refreshed their minds with Gandhian principles of Satyagraha and Ahimsa.  A Shramadaan was conducted as a part of community service and the school premises were cleaned. Members of both Anugraha Charity Club and YCIS in senior section and Souhridha Club in the primary section participated in the programme wholeheartedly.

Addressing the students, Dr. Sridevi P. Thashnath, Principal spoke on the importance of the day and how it has become a memorable day in the history of the world. She further elaborated how Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, an average, a feeble and meek boy turned out to be a powerful person with an overwhelming charisma. She urged the students to uphold the Gandhian principles and make the world a better place to live in. She appealed the students to accentuate and implement the words of Mahatma “Be the Change that you want to see in the world.”
