Indian School Darsait- the first NABET accredited School outside India
- the recognition of quality school governance.
“One accurate measurement is worth a thousand expert opinions.” ….and the NABET did it for ISD .
Indian School Darsait is the first School outside India to receive the Accreditation Certificate for ‘Quality School Governance’ from the National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (NABET). The accreditation is awarded to a school only if it meets the standards set for quality education by Quality Council of India (QCI). QCI functions through various accreditation boards and the accreditation for schools comes under the purview of NABET. The schools are assessed by NABET on 50 parameters including governance, educational and support processes, curriculum, examination and assessments, financial resources, infrastructure, health and safety, etc before granting the accreditation.
A twenty-year existence and sustenance of an institution in this competitive world is long enough to prove the quality and standards of the institution. However, the growth of the institution depends on its ability to go beyond the set standards and benchmarks. That is when Indian School Darsait decided to go for a Quality School Governance Standard. This was realized through National Accreditation Board for Education and Training – Quality Council of India.
NABET–QCI was set up in 1997 jointly by the Government of India and the Indian Industry represented by the three premier industry associations i.e., Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), to establish and operate national accreditation structure and promote quality through National Quality Campaign. It provides accreditation for Quality School Governance with a view to providing framework for the effective management and delivery of the holistic education programmes aimed at overall development of students.
It is in line with the recommendation of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, the then President of India, that there is a need for development of a standard for the schools to ensure quality of education across the nation that the QCI has developed the Accreditation Standard for Quality School Governance.
Today, Indian School Darsait can boast of being the first CBSE School outside India to be accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Education and Training – Quality Council of India (http://qcin.org/nabet/) through accreditation No. IS 1216 040 which is valid for 4 years from 16 June 2012 to 15 June 2016.
NABET Core Team
The herculean task of documenting the processes and procedures of the school was done meticulously by a core team lead by the Accreditation coordinator Mr. Saji S Nair, AVP Operations and ICT. The readiness visit by NABET officials from New Delhi provided the school an insight into the area that needed improvement and the final inspection of the key areas of academics and school administration proved beyond doubt that quality education is assured at Indian School Darsait.
The accreditation will definitely aid the school in conceptualizing national curricular objectives, strengthening the school governance, enhancing teaching–learning process and making evaluation methods more effective.
The accreditation certificate was presented to Mr. Omanakuttan N., President-SMC by Mrs. Shiela Dixit, Chief Minister of Delhi at a function held in New Delhi recently.
